The Upsides Of Using LED Lighting For Home

Light Emitting Diodes, or LED lights for short, is the latest lighting source available in the market today. This latest innovation has revolutionized lighting by changing the way we produce illumination. As opposed to the conventional method of generating light through heat, LEDs create light through a process called electroluminescence.

Unfortunately, the technology behind LED has made it more expensive than most sources. In fact, compared to candles, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs, LED light bulbs cost significantly more. But despite being more pricey than other lighting options, the many benefits of it provide more than enough reasons for us to try it especially at home.

1) Lower Energy Consumption

LED light bulbs do not require a lot of energy to create light. They create light in a process known as electroluminescence instead of transforming electrical energy into heat (like in the case of candles or incandescent bulbs). To put it simply, it changes the state of an electron to make it glow. This method eradicates, or at least significantly lowers, the amount of energy wasted when producing light. Additionally, since the structure and volume is a lot less than that of ordinary bulbs, less wattage is required to produce the same amount of illumination.

2) More Functional life

In comparison with other lighting alternatives, LED light bulbs normally last longer from around 25,000 to 50,000 hours conditional upon temperature and current settings. Some LED light bulbs even take 100,000 hours before complete failure is achieved. This is because LED lighting experience minimal wear and tear as opposed to other lighting sources. They do not have any shortening wicks, burning filaments, or consumable vapors.

Fluorescent bulbs are claimed to last only for 10,000 to 15,000 hours.

3) Smaller in size

Since the mechanism behind LED depends just on the size of the semiconductor chip, there is no need for voluminous confinements. The smaller the chip is, the smaller the LED light created. This, on the other hand, does not necessarily translate to luminous intensity. It does not mean that just because LED light bulbs are small, they are dimmer than lights produced by other sources.

Instead, LED lighting, depending on the type and function, can sometimes be brighter than other types of light.

4) Resilience

Because there are basically no moving parts in LED light bulbs, they are more resistant to shocks and vibrations. Additionally, because their structure has gotten rid of the need for glass (and other fragile components), they are generally more sturdy and tougher than bulbs, thus making it the most durable source of lighting.

5) Faster switching

In the case of fluorescent and incandescent bulbs, light is produced due to superheating a medium. This is not the same for LED lighting. The moment electricity flows through the chip, electroluminescence almost immediately happens. This allows LED light bulbs to be switched on and off faster than other sources of light. In fact, it can reach full illumination in a matter of microseconds.

6) No toxicity

LED lamps do not contain Mercury vapor unlike fluorescent lamps. They are therefore safer to throw away and less toxic than normal fluorescent bulbs

The aforementioned are some of the great benefits of using LED lighting at home.
